Thanks for this thread. It s easy to apply and as long as you don t damage the surface of the asbestos tiles it will cover and prevent the tiles from being exposed. If your floor can be thicker without causing problems install a porcelain floor over the old asbestos. I just posted a similar situation last night but over a much smaller area of asbestos tile i m going to use your approach especially since levelquik specifies it can be installed over vct and or cutback adhesive.

Over time asphalt which was a main ingredient in asbestos tiles can degrade and cause the tiles to look grimy or discolored in spots. Once cured the underlying tiles will be fully encapsulated and not at risk of crumbling with age. You have a short amount of time to work with the embossing leveler before it starts to set or cure so trowel quickly. That said it can be difficult to get a level surface for the new floor especially if the old tiles have chipped away.

If you are hiring a flooring company they may be hesitant to work around asbestos tiles. But as long as the floor is in good existing shape now you can cover encapsulate the tiles using floor leveling compound. These tiles provided fire resistance and durability a high performance function that has always been in. In many cases installing a new floor over the tiles encapsulates the asbestos fibers and is an acceptable way to manage the material.

There is no danger for asbestos exposure now unless the floor is drilled or cut into. Removing vinyl asbestos tiles is a very time consuming and expensive process. The self leveling concrete can be applied to various thicknesses and will dry as a smooth topcoat over the primed tiles.
